This past month I’ve been invited to speak at a few different events, and one thing I’ve noticed is that everyone asks such thoughtful questions. It makes sense, anytime you spend money on your home you’re making an investment.
One question that always comes up is: “What trend is about to leave? What should we avoid jumping on?”
My answer is simple: none.
I will never steer someone away from a style they truly love. If it makes your heart sing when you walk in the door, then it deserves a place in your home. A well designed space never goes out of style, especially if it’s one you enjoy coming home to every day.
Design isn’t about keeping up with the Joneses. It’s about finding what you like and running with it. Trends come and go, but the feeling you get in your own space is what lasts.
As designers, we love to stretch our creativity, explore new ideas, and try something unexpected… that’s part of the fun. But at the end of the day, our job is to respect your style, listen to your needs, and create a space that works within your budget.
So the next time you’re wondering if something is “too trendy,” ask yourself instead: Do I love it? Does it make me happy when I come home? Because that is the only trend that never goes out of style.
