Introduction

Hi! I’m Brittney, owner and designer behind Signature Styles by Brit—and if we haven’t met yet, welcome! I wanted my first blog post to be a little more personal, because behind every beautiful design is a story—and this one just so happens to start in my own kitchen.

Picture this: a disorganized layout, cabinets that felt like they were closing in on me, and one too many drawer fronts falling off and landing on my foot. I tried gluing. I tried stapling. I tried ignoring it. But by the third time I was chasing down a runaway drawer front, I looked at my husband and said, “That’s it—we’re doing this.” It wasn’t just about wanting a prettier kitchen—it was about investing in our home, our sanity, and honestly… our toes.

My Background in Design

Before I officially launched my business, I spent over a decade working at a major home improvement store. While I eventually became a kitchen and bath designer, I didn’t start there—I did a little bit of everything. From flooring and paint to light fixtures and appliances, I was the go-to person customers came to when they needed help pulling it all together. Design was second nature, and customer service was always my top priority. I wasn’t just helping people pick out materials—I was helping them make their house feel more like home.

Pressing Pause (But Not Really)

Life shifted when we moved to Texas and I became a mom. I hit pause on full-time work to focus on our family, but the designer in me never really stopped working. Friends would still come to me asking for help with paint colors, furniture layout ideas, or how to make their space feel more pulled together. It was always fun to offer suggestions and see their excitement when small changes made a big impact. Even when I wasn’t “officially” designing, I realized people still valued my eye—and I missed being in that creative zone more than I realized.

The Remodel That Sparked It All (And a Future Blog Teaser)

In 2023, after years of helping others with their remodels, it was finally our turn. We dove into our own kitchen renovation—and while I was excited, I definitely underestimated how different it feels when you’re the client.

Let’s just say… it was a ride.

I went into it thinking I had a solid contractor, but what unfolded turned into a bit of a nightmare. Delays, poor communication, and one problem after another. I’ll be sharing more about that experience (and what I learned from it) in a future blog post—but I’ll just say this: it gave me a whole new level of empathy for my clients.

Back when I was at “the big box store”, I was spoiled. We had a team of thoroughly vetted contractors that made my job easy. I never had to wonder who I was working with or if they were legit. But this experience? It pushed me to make it a priority to align myself with trustworthy, skilled, and professional contractors so that my clients never have to deal with what I went through.

Starting Signature Styles by Brit

Launching my own business in a brand-new state was exciting… and scary. I left behind all my contacts and resources in the Pacific Northwest and found myself starting from scratch here in Texas. I questioned whether I could really build something on my own, all while juggling being a wife, a mom, and now an entrepreneur. But the passion was there—and the calling was too loud to ignore.

Signature Styles by Brit was born from equal parts love for design and frustration from my own renovation journey. I wanted to create a service that really listened to clients, respected budgets, and brought back the excitement of designing a home. And while starting a business is never easy, the journey—and the people I’ve met along the way—have made it completely worth it.

I’ve been blessed to connect with some amazing clients, hardworking professionals, and fellow small business owners. I’m still building, still learning, and still chasing the dream… but now I get to do it on my terms, with heart, humor, and a whole lot of hustle.

Final Thoughts

So here I am—designer, mom, wife, and accidental drawer-front catcher—doing what I love and helping others fall back in love with their homes. Signature Styles by Brit is about more than just making things pretty. It’s about creating functional, stylish spaces that fit your life, your budget, and your style. Whether you’re looking for a complete remodel, help pulling things together, or just someone to tell you which white paint won’t turn yellow—I’m your girl.
